Pass, shoot—goal! The team huddles on the field, celebrating their season win. Unfortunately for Darlene Black, a senior starter for the Varsity soccer team, she was forced to watch from the bench. Last year, Darlene was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease known to negatively affect muscle movement. Her condition caused her to sit out the season. “Sitting out last year was hard for me,” Darlene said. “I didn’t like not being able to play”. Darlene was conflicted; frustrated with being away from the game and yet understanding why. At the beginning of last year’s season, Darlene...

Ultimate Frisbee Flies above the College Crowd

June 7, 2018

The team’s coach, Mr. Anthony Zoppi, is glowing with pride for his team, “this year they have been really competing well against college teams”. They’ve been competing well enough that he bet his pride on it- he’d sport Tony Stark inspired facial hair if they managed to win against a college team. And with this last victory against ESU the team clenched their victory and Coach Zoppi clenched his razor.

February 12, 2018

Dribble, shoot, rebound, score! Go hard or go home. Matthew Henneforth shoots for his goals as a freshman on the varsity basketball team. Matt, who started basketball at the age of seven, has been playing for eight years. He has always been one of the tall kids, which has given him the upper hand against others. But it hasn’t always been this easy for Matt.   Once he joined varsity, there were many more kids who were not only tall, but also very talented. “I always had the upper hand because I was around six feet in eighth grade,” Matt says, “But now, there are kids who tower over me and they are more athletic”. He struggled with this conflict, but it pushed him to work harder and practice more to succeed. Now, Matt is better and ready for any challenge that is thrown at him. The team also...
