Caleb’s Pennies Raises Funds for Families with Sick Child

Nicholas Kassen, Staff Reporter

Caleb’s Pennies is a Foundation that has been providing financial assistance to families with a critically child since May 2010. The Foundation has supported more than 650 families by paying mortgage, rent, electric, medical bills and more, so parents can concentrate on their child’s recovery.  Annually, Caleb’s Pennies holds an event entitled Caleb’s Pennies Tricky Tray Fundraiser, which raffles over 175 themed baskets. Caleb’s legacy lives on through this foundation and the effort to honor his name.

Caleb’s Pennies was started in the loving memory of Nicole Granville’s son, Caleb. Twelve years ago, Caleb was diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor. He was only two years old. Throughout his brief stay at the hospital, family and friends were able to be there to provide love and support.

Over the past nine years, Caleb’s Pennies Tricky Tray Fundraiser was able to raise just under $400,000 to help families in need. The Foundation holds its annual Tricky Tray Fundraiser in April at The Dock on Wallenpaupauk. They are always in need of monetary event sponsors, gift cards and donated items to fill the baskets.

Personal note from this reporter:  Caleb’s Foundation holds a special place in my heart. My brother, Daniel and I have volunteered with fundraising efforts by providing baked goods for the annual Tricky Tray Fundraiser. My sincere gratitude to Robin Mitschele (Caleb’s Grandmother) for providing information regarding their foundation. Robin shared how grateful they are to all the generous donors who have believed in their mission.
